A New Hope or a Harbinger of Doom: Nigeria's Current Administration
Written by Utibeabasi Bassey
From as early as last year, Nigerians have provided multiple views on the current administration of His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. While some maintain that his regime will usher Nigeria into a new age of peace and economic development, some note that his administration will rather cause hardship for the good Nigerian citizens.

It is necessary to access the works of the President in this regard. From the inauguration of the president on the 29th of May, 2023, there has been some significant change in the Nigerian administration. For instance, fuel subsidies have since been removed. Moreover, the government has signed into law the student loan bill, which will have an integral role to play in the Nigerian system in years to come. The dismissal of some high authority officials has also raised the interest of a lot of Nigerians, particularly the dismissal of Godwin Emefele, the former CBN governor.
While many commend the Nigerian president on being very active and making historical strides, others are of the opinion that these new policies are rather inflicting more harm on the Nigerian citizenry. In fact, it is interesting to note that the newly implemented student loan policy has encountered multiple debates in its' short time of fruition, a debate that has been unable to produce a winning side.
Perhaps we can tow the line of Bode George, who in his appraisal of the new administration had this to say:
“It is not a 100-metre race. He (Tinubu) is to manage his people and to manage the resources of this country for the betterment of this country. He is just starting off. It’s not perfect but reasonable. At least, it is better than what we had known before when he was in Lagos. Maybe he was much younger at that time and had no experience but now, Lagos is not Abuja.”
One cannot judge the new administration by only a few weeks and while the inception may not be perfect, it must be noted that there are positive changes to the Nigerian system and as Nigerians, it is only a matter of time before we can finally determine whether the current administration will exceed our expectations positively. Or perhaps, send us to the guillotine.
