Live Action Remakes Fiasco: Is Disney Losing Her Creativity?
Written by Utibeabasi Bassey
The Disney Live Action remake- The Little Mermaid- has received both positive and negative reviews even before its premier on the 26th of May, 2023.
While many praise Disney's effort at representation, especially in her diverse casting, the most prominent being the casting of Haile Bailey as Ariel, many have criticised the casting decision and generally, the plot of the movie, noting that it was rather plain and not captivating enough.
However, perhaps the most concerning issue is whether Disney has lost their creativity as the remakes seem more and more alarming with everyday that passes.
So far, Disney classics such as Cinderella, Mulan, Alaadin, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and The Little Mermaid have been remade into live action shows, each of these shows receiving mixed reviews on their premieres.
Several fans are concerned about whether every Disney animated show will eventually be remade into live action shows in years to come, taking away from the beauty of the animation. Many have come to conclude that the remakes were unnecessary and Disney should have put in more effort into creating bigger and better new movies, both animated and live action.

Concerns are already flying for new showstoppers such as Moana, Raya and the Last Dragon, Frozen 1 and 2, Encanto, and many more.
Despite the concerns from many fans, some fans have taken to social media to appreciate Disney for their live action remakes, expecting more animated shows to be remade into live action movies. Nevertheless, the concern is whether these sets of people carry the majority.
